New York Movies: While We’re Young / She’s Funny That Way / Birdman /

The nice thing about New York is, if you miss it, it’s only a movie away. Like, the website On the Set of New York doesn’t exist for nothing. Let me guide you through some films I saw in August that take place in the city.

Love it or hate it, but I found this to be an actual good movie. Pros: Emma Stone, Edward Norton and again Naomi Watts. I also loved the detailed look you get inside St. James’ theater. Cons: Michael Keaton sort of naked.

This latest Ben Stiller movie is actually not so horrible (yes, I am implicating here). Maybe the main reason for that is, that is also stars Naomi Watts and (I don’t know what it is about him) Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried (hello my dear girlcrush). The story about an older couple (Watts & Stiller) finding their inner youths back through their friendship they build with a younger Brooklyn hipster couple (Seyfried & Driver) is meh, but ok. I loved seeing some more of Williamsburg though.

Babyhooker Imogen Poots (hello dear girlcrush again) does the unthinkable and falls in love (like, whut?) with Owen Wilson (yes, that’s right). Ofcourse she is also an aspiring actress and once she auditions for a big part Owen Wilson turns out to be the director. Nuff said. The movie is a typical comedy and though there is nothing REALLY special about it, it still entertained me. Partially because of the endeering Joisey accent Poots had during the film. Pretty nice New York hotels (Barclay), streets (greenwich ave & christopher st), shops (bloomingdale’s, macy’s) and theaters (Belasco) are in it. And also: Jennifer Aniston <3.

Feel like seeing some movie to take you back to New York? There are like a bazillion choices. Take a look around at to see what movies are set in NYC.
